If I would be writing this as a news article, I would start off with explaining the heading. But it isn’t. But don’t worry, I promise to get to it. Eventually.
But first. Reach-U has had the ISO 9001:2008 quality process certificate for software development since 2006 and we pay great attention to our quality of work. Even though I find it to be very important, there are more things that I appreciate in our projects.
In my subjective opinion successful projects are made of different things. Of course being in budget and deadline is important. But also it is good to have a clear purpose. That the work that is done by team members is effective. To have excellent communication with partners and customers. That the solution helps our customers and it will be useful for people.
Speaking of successful projects.

In the beginning of this year we finished a Proof of Concept (POC) project for Entel in Santiago, Chile. There were different main objectives and one of them was to show Transport Ministry of Chile our capabilities in smart cities and transport planning. Santiago is already using a lot of modern technology in their transportation. For example did you know that they have reversible lanes, meaning that the number of lanes going to each direction can be changed during a day? This way they can manage traffic jams and also prevent them.
Cities like Santiago understand that when planning transport infrastructure it is important to understand how and why people move. So far the surveys have been time consuming and done after decades. To know when and where to add lanes, where to build new ones, how to improve public transport usage, etc. Reach-U can do this kind of analyses easily on a daily basis. Reach-U uses network based data for creating a more accurate understanding of where people come from, where are they heading, which roads they prefer, what is the traffic load on different roads, how does it differ on weekdays to holidays, how long does it take to travel the same distance with public transport compared to travelling by car, when and where are the peak hours etc. Answering to these questions on a daily basis helps to see the impact of changes immediately and make changes accordingly.
In my opinion this project was successful in many terms. This is why it was so amazing to hear that this project was selected out of 279 other projects for the main stage keynote at the next Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona. The speaker will be Mr. Pedro Vidal, who is the Chile Undersecretary for Transportation. He will introduce what was done and how this kind of analyses can help cities like Santiago.
We are very proud and cannot wait for the event to take place! Fortunately it is now less than a month away. If you are interested to meet us at the Smart City Expo, then let us know. Hanna, Gaspar and Juan Martin will be in Barcelona for the whole event, ready to meet and introduce our different solutions and capabilities.
